Manifestation IV - The Watcher of the Chair

This is the first one with the Watcher that I've recorded. Most of the leg work in analyzing the conditions for this one came to me as a result of a chance encounter with an old friend who I used to do some charity work with.

The story's long and a bit boring so I'll jump ahead. She told me about the Watcher from a series of inquiries she was doing into local ghost stories. I think she was writing a collection of short stories based on local folk tales, but I honestly don't remember at this point. Anyways, she told me about the story of a family haunted by this entity that tended to observe them in a non-threatening manner.

Of particular interest to it were apparently cans, chairs, and screen doors.

A few months of research and the following was found.

Conditions:
1. Night time.
2. Yellow light.
3. Near houses with living residents.

Methods:
1. Place a metal can or chair in the middle of an open space (e.g. a road)
2. Wait for natural movement.

Now, I know method 2 is a bit vague, so I'll clarify. The Watcher seems to manifest when living observers are distracted by peripheral movement. This can range from billowing trees to cars in the distance. The materialization usually occurs during this lapse. Of course, with the video camera the appearance is no less mysterious.

This is the first humanoid manifestation I've come across that has a preference for certain objects. This raises a number of interesting questions about the nature of these manifestations. What, for instance, do these phenomena represent? Are they ghosts in the traditional sense? The Watcher seems to be very person-like. I always assumed that these things were natural phenomena (still do), just a little outside of our current understanding.

I like indulging in philosophical conundrums every now and then, but the fact of the matter is that my area of expertise is the research and cataloging of conditions and methods, not reasons and motivations.

Inconclusive - Digital Clock

Here's a strange one that has started occurring to me in the last few days. That being said, I've not had enough time to fully test this one out, if it in fact turns out to be a legitimate manifestation. Right now it is just an odd occurrence.

My digital clock has been resetting itself lately. After being watched for a good 30 seconds or more it will change the time display to 5:55am. I really have no idea why this is happening. Frankly, it is annoying because of the time I've wasted trying to set the clock to the correct time.

Here's the information I know about this oddity, hopefully someone out there can help me explain this one.

1. The clock resets itself to 5:55am after being observed for 30-40 seconds.
2. When videotaped, an odd pattern can be seen on the wall behind the clock after the clock resets (this is not always visible otherwise, see below for details).
3. If left at 5:55am, the clock does not advance.
4. If the clock reads 5:55am and it actually is 5:55am then the pattern on the wall is visible without the camera's viewfinder.

This is what I get...

This is what I get for leaving my computer alone with auto-complete on. I don't appreciate being filmed without my knowledge, joke or not. I'll delete the post later.

Update: Well, the post doesn't seem to want to be deleted.

Manifestation III - The Creeping Cloth

This one was found about a year ago. I got inspiration from, of all places, a message board talking about lucid dreaming. Some of the details sounded suspicious and I looked into a few of the "dreams" on the board and this is the result.

It took quite a while to find out that the key condition is a chicken or quail egg (only these two kinds of eggs work).

Conditions:
1. A hallway (more specifically, an area with two partitions at least three inches thick where the flooring between the two partitions touches both)
2. A chicken egg (or quail egg, the results are identical, though other eggs don't work)
3. Complete darkness

Methods:
1. Place the egg exactly three inches to the left of the center point between the two partitions
2. Turn off any major light source (it seems ambient light, like low intensity moonlight, is fine)
3. Important: Turn the lights back on in thirty seconds

This is the first one I found that is mildly dangerous. Failure to turn the lights on after thirty seconds results in a few odd effects that vary from person to person. For me, it resulted in a nose bleed. One other report I got from a trusted friend said he felt a wave of nausea. Also, less threatening but no less strange, if you wait too long to turn on the lights you won't get your egg back.

Note: the audio cut was unintentional.

Manifestation II - The Shadow in the Shower

This was the second one I ever discovered. I managed to figure out the conditions with help from a fellow enthusiast (well, he is now anyway, back then he was just a bored IT consultant).

A special warning, while I have deemed this one not dangerous, it can seriously effect your willingness to use your shower.

Conditions:
1. Fiberglass base (a modern bath tub usually will work)
2. Plastic sheet that touches a part of the base and is at least 5'6" tall and 36" wide (consequently a shower curtain does the trick)

Methods:
1. Apply 4oz 1:1 mixture of water and vinegar onto the plastic first, then the base soon after.

The easiest way I found is to use a small glass and toss the solution on the plastic, making sure it drips down and contacts the fiberglass soon after. The Manifestation can take up to a minute to appear.

The tone on the video is a peculiarity with the capturing of this one. In person, the sound is akin to soft whispering. Another odd detail is that the Shadow only appears if the plastic covers it from all active vantage points (including video cameras) making this the first I've discovered that changes through observation. I have yet to come up with a satisfactory explanation for this anomaly.

Inconclusive - After the hurricane

A good friend of mine who lives near Ordolus sent me this video after a hurricane nearly destroyed the whole area. He shares my fascination with strange happenings and thought this would be right up my alley. He was partially right.

I'm posting this as inconclusive because not enough research has gone into figuring out the conditions and methods for this one. Understandably, all my friend could provide was speculation and hearsay. He says, for instance, that he had noticed this thing once after hurricane Alicia when he was on the island, but he has no proof, video or otherwise, to back up his claim.

Speculated conditions are that the thing appears after a major disaster, possibly only water-related like hurricanes and storms. Too many questions remain to confirm this as a legitimate recreatable manifestation, but I'll post it here in hopes that others can figure this one out.

Manifestation I - The Lighted Crawlspace

This was the first one I ever figured out, so it has quite a nostalgic place in my heart. Because it was the first, the events surrounding its discovery were strange to say the least.

When I was 8 or so, I was scared to death of the little door at the back of my closet. I don't think this was unusual for a kid at that age (at least in retrospect). Of course, these fears typically begin and end in the overstimulated imagination. Not so for me.

I remember one specific night when I saw a flash of light come from inside the closet. This memory stuck with me well into my early twenties so I decided to apply some logic to this irrational fear in hopes of overcoming it.

I recreated the conditions from that night and made this discovery. After much research I finally found out the specific Conditions and Methods used to create the Manifestation.

Conditions:
1. A single high Kelvin light source, a fluorescent lamp (my nightlight had filled this role during my childhood)
2. Wooden door, between 14" and 18" wide

Methods:
1. Knock three times, each no further than two seconds apart (oddly spaced thunderclaps had filled this role during my childhood)

Needless to say, this did little to assuage my fears, but opened up a whole new world for me.

Where there is one, there are many.

Note: I've had a few people ask if the movement of the clothes was because of the Manifestation and the answer is no. That was merely me moving my arm out of the way after knocking on the door.
